Tuesday we had a very fun and relaxing day. We found out on Monday that Tuesday would be a national holiday and there would be no school so we asked Lanka if it would be ok to spend the most of day playing with the students that board here on campus. We played lots of games with them. The girls played jump rope and had a lots of discussions with Ruth and Hannah. Us guys played lots of games with the boys. We were astonished at some of the boys incredible marksmanship with marbles. They use there middle finger as a sling shot, pull it back with the opposite hand and fired at the opponent's marble. They could hit there target consistently over 10-15'. We also played an Indianized version of volleyball. They broke there net a few years ago, so now they play with a pretend net. Yes, lots of arguments about if the ball was high enough to clear the invisible net. Some of us also got to serve the students supper. Its amazing how much rice they can eat. One boy had his plate filled 4 times!
Last night we went to 2 church services in the city. We got to the first service around 8 pm. it was an extremely poor area of town and we had to walk through a dirty pathway to the church. We had to go up a steep narrow stairway and duck so we wouldn't hit our heads on the ceilings, but the people of the church were very happy that we came. The church was so small that a lot of the people had to sit on the outside. Tom preached on staying on the course until the end.
We didn't have to drive far for the second service and arrived just before 10 pm.. It was up on a roof top of a 3rd story building. It was neat to have a service up high in the cool evening air. There were not very many men at this service, but lots of children who still needed to get up for school the next morning. Afterwards they served us a supper at a family's house nearby. We came home just before midnight.
Today, Wednesday, is our last full day here. We don't have anything on the scheduled yet except to do some shopping and then Lanka wants to take us out to a restaurant in the city.
So long, Doran for the team
