David D. Stutzman of Sugarcreek
went home to be with the Lord on Christmas Day at the age of 100 years, 3
months, and one day, after suffering a stroke on December 23rd,
2020.
He was born in Holmes County on
September 24th, 1920 to the late David J. and Frances (Kaufman)
Stutzman and married Erma Swartzentruber, the love of his life, on November 8th,
1942. She died on November 18th, 2010.
His passions were preaching,
singing, and writing poetry. He was instrumental in starting the Sharon Chorus
and the original Pilot’s Quartet. He also sang in the first Men’s Quartet at
Sharon and later with the King’s Men men’s chorus. Because of his passion for
music, books, and Bibles, he established Stutzman’s Gospel Records, selling out
of his home on Main Street. On March 10th, 1967 he opened The Gospel
Shop in downtown Sugarcreek, which is still in existence today.
He is survived by his family
who he greatly loved and prayed for. His seven children are Loyal (Susie)
Stutzman, David Lee (Leona) Stutzman, Rhoda (Freeman) Mullet all of Sugarcreek,
James (Delores) Stutzman of Milford, IN, Luke (Lois) Stutzman of Millersburg,
Jesse (Esta) Stutzman and Ruth (Willis) Schlabach both of Sugarcreek; 17
grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson and 2 step
great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; his beloved wife, Erma; his six brothers, Henry, Roman, Marion,
Andrew, John, and Paul; and three sisters Elizabeth, Anna, and Sarah.
Services will be held on
Tuesday, December 29th, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Sharon Mennonite Church.
Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to
Christian Aid Ministries of Berlin, OH or to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas
County, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. The family would
like to thank all who showed support to them through prayers and words of
encouragement. We wish also to thank Hospice for their caring service.
