The morning started a bit early for some of us since jet-lag decided to hit around 4 0'clock. The muslim call to prayer broke the early morning stillness along with dogs barking and roosters crowing. Dennis and I spent some time spotting birds on the little balcony overlooking the courtyard. Then I ventured into the kitchen to see what was cooking for breakfast. The menu was Kitchadi (rice and lentils eaten with a roasted peanut sauce), fruit salad and cereal with milk. Everyone decided to eat the Indian breakfast instead of the cereal.
After a short time of praise and worship at Sam's we left for a church service about an hour away. Marvin shared a short devotional on John 14:6. The men tried to sing the song, There Is a God and decided to ask us ladies to help them out when it didn't go so well. Tom gave a message about the Samaritan Woman and the importance of water in our physical lives as well as our spiritual lives. We need the water of life that Jesus offers us. Toby closed with prayer. It was so neat to watch the small children during the service. They don't have toys but they find different ways of amusing themselves. We watched a little girl and boy amusing themselves with handkerchiefs and shoes. They would wrap them up and put them on their heads. Another girl would drink water from a bottle and let it dribble down the front of her dress. Some other "toys" were rocks and pieces plastic or tinfoil.
Becca cooked a delicious lunch in the morning and took it along. We ate lunch around 3:00 in the house of the leader of the village. We had lentils and rice, indian fried chicken, chapatis, and banana chocolate chip cake. After driving back to Sam's some of us took naps. Then we ate popcorn, ice cream, cake, and Indian coffee while watching a documentary of VBS. Hans Mast is here working on putting a video presentation together of different aspects of the ministry. There is a game of Scum going on and a game of Spit Fire with Dutch Blitz cards. We've enjoyed learning to know Rebbecca Joy Leid (the secretary) and Amanda Meyers (the school-teacher). Sonya, Jason, and Judson have been a lot of fun to spend time with too! Judson is pretty competitive when it comes to games!
Tomorrow morning we leave for the train station at 4:30 to go to Vijayawada.
Thank you for all your prayer and support!
